Pumpkins and Pig Races

Trevor missed going to the pumpkin patch earlier this month. So, I took the kids to the pumpkin patch this past weekend, because it was our last chance to go. They picked out pumpkins, went on a hay ride, played in the hay (Trevor's favorite part), fed the animals in the petting zoo, and watched pig races. Here are some cute pics of them. Sarah has been going through a phrase lately, and was less than cooperative when I tried to take pictures. But, I got some cute photos of them anyway. Afterward, we went to Mikah Jo's birthday party and went on another hay ride, so it was a very busy day which topped off another busy weekend. It's amazing how much fun they had just playing in the hay. Oh the joys of childhood!

A Day Out with Thomas

This past weekend, we took the kids to "A Day Out With Thomas" in Rusk, TX. They got to ride Thomas the Train and meet Sir Topham Hatt and have their photos taken with both of them. We went with the Derdens and the boys had a blast together! Ya-Ya made Sarah the cutest Thomas the Train dress and we got a lot of compliments on it. Trevor was so happy and excited that at one point, when we were riding the train, I shed a few tears. He was grinning so big and you could see the excitement in his eyes. The whole day was perfect--blue skies and the perfect fall day. It was a 4-year-old boy's dream, complete with trains, toys, and a petting zoo. After 3 weeks of rain and being stuck indoors at home, it was great to get outside with the kids and to do something fun together. Hopefully, the kids will remember this day for a long time.

Pitchin' a Tent and fire safety

Making good on a promise, Jody bought a family-size tent, and is planning to take Trevor camping soon. The kids enjoyed helping Daddy put the tent together (yes here it is in the house but what can you do when it's raining?) and playing in it, while Mommy kept muttering something like, "I can't believe there's a tent in the house..." Trevor also got his first sleeping bag, and tried it out inside the tent. Jody has promised to take Sarah camping too when she gets a little bigger. Of course, Sarah was jealous of the sleeping bag and they fought over it a little until we finally had to put it up. (We'll probably be going back to the store to get the pink one, too...). The whole thing was a welcome change after being stuck in the house with "nothing to do" during all of this rain!!!

Also this week was Preschool Fire Safety Week (who knew there was such a thing?), and two real firemen visited Trevor's preschool and he got to see one in his full uniform with a mask and everything. Someone from the local newspaper was there and took a photo. So, Trevor and several of his classmates ended up on the front page of the paper. It was a pleasant surprise! Of course, the next day, all Trev wanted to do was dress up in his fireman's costume and boots and respond to "emergencies" in the house, which involved repeatedly putting it on in a hurry and taking it off. It was cute, but a lot of work for Mom! He is very much into firemen (he's going to be one for Halloween, hence the costume) and he loves all things involving rescue vehicles. So it was a treat for him to see another fireman and touch his uniform.

Game Time

Trevor had his first soccer game of the season on Saturday. Even though he's played at soccer camp before, this is the first time he's played on a soccer team. We were going to try to do soccer this past Spring, but he played T-ball instead (we just could not figure out a way to do both). He really likes soccer and is having a lot of fun! Their team is the Lightning and they have 8 players. They play 4 on 4 (3 on field and one at goalie) and they have 8 3-minute periods, so they are constantly rotating players so everyone gets to play. The game is only 24 minutes, but it took close to an hour to play since they got started late. It is fun to watch--the kids caught on fast and were really trying. Jody is their coach, so that's been a lot of work but fun, too. Thank goodness several other parents have been helping! Trevor is a little younger than some of his teammates, but he's just as enthusiastic. It was really fun to see him play goalie!

Pink

Sarah loves all things pink! She especially loves her pink trike that Ya-Ya gave her. Ya-Ya rescued it from salvage, painted it, and made it cute. Here is a photo of Sarah riding it at her friend Lillie's birthday party. The kids all brought their trikes and bikes and rode them in the driveway. What a great idea! Sarah can really get around on her trike now, and she was having lots of fun riding it barefoot (notice her socks behind her), going pretty fast for a 2-year-old!
