World Cup

Here are more photos from soccer camp. There were six kiddos in the 4-6 age group. At the end of the week, they had a "World Cup" championship of their own, and they got to choose the countries their teams would represent. The only catch: no one could be the U.S. So the kids naturally chose China and Australia (because the kids were familiar with these countries since their parents had visited these countries). Sarah suggested China I think since her Daddy had been there recently. There were two other kids on the team whose Dad had visited Australia. Each child was asked to make a flag for their country and bring it for the World Cup competition and "Flag Day Friday". Trevor was on the Australian team and Sarah on the Chinese team. So we made flags for each country. It was a little strange seeing our daughter wave Communist China's red flag, but it was all in fun for the game. So here are pictures from the last day of soccer camp and their World Cup. (It's also fitting that the U.S. Women's soccer team is competing in the real World Cup final today). Go TEAM USA!

Summer Fun

The kids have been staying busy, despite the heat. Just wanted to post a few pics to sum up the past month or so. Sarah FINALLY got her first trophy (brother has 4) so I've included the pic of her picking up her trophy post-season from her T-ball coach. They also just finished soccer camp so I'm posting a few pics of that. It was a fun week but HOT! It always seems to be the hottest week of the summer. This year they attended a British Soccer camp at a different location, and the coaches were Welsh and Scottish, which was a lot of fun. Will post more soccer camp photos soon.

Lemonade Stand

Last weekend we had a yard sale. We promised the kids they could have a lemonade stand sometime this summer, so we decided to combine the two. It was a little stressful getting it all together, but it turned out to be fun and the kids had a blast! The kids and I spent most of the day Friday squeezing lemons to make 6 batches of lemonade, using 5 bags of lemons, and we made 5 dozen Toll House cookies!!! We sold lemonade and cookies, so each child had something they were in charge of, and they wouldn't fight over who was going to serve the customers. They actually sold about $11 worth of lemonade and a few dollars worth of cookies, which was great considering the prices (50 cents and 25 cents). They enjoyed peddling their goods and stayed outside longer than I expected they would considering the heat. Thankfully, the borrowed canopy made the heat a little more bearable. Overall, it was a good day. And ohhhh the memories!

Milestones

Both kids hit milestones today. Trevor finally lost his other front tooth. If you know the saga of his front teeth, then you can appreciate how relieved we all are that he actually kept his front teeth until now! He almost knocked them out 3 times starting at age 3 and he had to have double root canals (called a double pulpectomy) to get them filled when he was 3 years old. So, today was a happy day (not to mention that this one has been hanging on for a couple of weeks past its welcome and was becoming a nuisance). His Daddy actually pulled it out. Mom has pulled the others. So now he's lost 4 teeth, and he looks exactly like I did in first grade--no front teeth on top. Maybe I'll find some photos and compare them side-by-side. If you look closely at the picture you can see the new one coming in on bottom. He also has 3 of his 6-year-molars coming in, so he has all kinds of changes going on with his teeth. Maybe that explains some of the fuss lately!

Also, today we took the rails off of Sarah's bed. Yes, she still had bed rails and wasn't ready to have them taken off. Today, out of the blue, she said, "Mommy, I want to take the rails off my bed today." I was ecstatic! Not to mention, it is a whole lot easier to make the bed. Whew!

So, the fact that today was a VERY LONG day of summer break for Mommy which started at 5:00 a.m. (son woke up then and never went back to sleep) and didn't end until daughter fell asleep sometime after 9 p.m. was made a little bit better by the fact that both kids hit some milestones tonight! Yay!

Penguins and Papaws

Today was Father's Day and we've had a very busy weekend! Yesterday we took the kids to see Papaw Tuck and they played outside and rode their power wheels. Sarah cannot wait to pick tomatoes in their garden! Today was also Papaw Tuck's birthday and we gave him a new fishing pole.

Today we went to the lake and the kids went fishing with Papaw Horton and caught several fish off the dock. The water was too choppy to take out the boat, but it turned out to be a GREAT day for fishing off the dock! Trevor caught a small bass and several bream. Sarah also caught about five fish before she gave up and came inside (the dock was really rocking from the choppy water). Trevor fishes like an old pro. He bait his own hook with live crickets and even threw the fish back in the water with his bare hands (with a little help from Daddy who took the fish off the hook).

The kids Father's Day present for their Dad was fishing bait--go figure--and Trevor had a blast picking the bait out at the store.

We also took the kids to the zoo last weekend and they finally got to see the new penguin exhibit which was a lot of fun. So, here are photos of fishing and the penguins at the zoo.
